Church Covenant

THE CALVARY BAPTIST

CHURCH MEMBER COVENANT

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized,
and being in agreement with CBC’s strategy, structure,
and statements, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit
to establish CBC as “my” family.  In do so:

I commit myself to do the following:

  I. I WILL PROTECT THE UNITY OF MY CHURCH

…by acting in love toward other members
   …by refusing to gossip
   …by following the leaders

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony           with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus.” Rom 15:5 ESV

“Let no corrupt talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building          up, as fit the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Eph. 4:29 ESV

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls,        as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with              groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Heb. 13:17 ESV

II. I WILL SUPPORT THE MISSION OF MY CHURCH

…by encouraging others to grow in
    meaningful relationship with Christ
…by inviting the unchurched to attend

“Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house           may be filled.” Luke 14:23 ESV

“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”         Rom. 15:7 ESV

III. I WILL SERVE THE MINISTRY OF MY CHURCH

…by discovering my gifts and talents
…by seeking to be equipped to serve
   …by developing a servant’s heart

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s          varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10 ESV

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more                  significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interest, but also      to the interest of others. ….but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being      born in the likeness of men.” Phil. 2:3-4, 7 ESV

IV. I WILL SUPPORT THE TESTIMONY OF MY                         CHURCH

   …by attending faithfully
   …by living a godly life
   …by giving regularly

“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one                  another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Heb. 10:25 ESV

“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that             whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you           are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the       faith of the gospel.”  Phil. 1:27 ESV

“On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and      store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I          come.” 1 Cor. 16:2 ESV

  V. I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL OF MY                        FELLOW  MEMBERS WILL ALSO HONOR THIS                SAME COVENANT

…by pursuing me when I stray
…by loving me when conflict arises
…by helping me when I am in error

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should                 restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be                     tempted.  Bear one  another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone         thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Gal. 6:1-3 ESV

“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”       Phil.  2:4 ESV

“No longer as a bondservant but more than a bondservant, as a beloved brother –          especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. So if          you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me. If he has                  wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account.  I, Paul, write          this with my own hand: I will repay it to say nothing of your owing me even your own      self.”  Philemon 16-19 ESV
